ALTERNATIVE NEWS SERVICE

Commune News Service, the alternative photo / video / news agency.

CNS is devised to supply news of the deprived to mainstream media, NGOs, publishers, channels, production units, activist groups in India and abroad. The agency shall begin as a three-member editorial team and later will spread out with the help of stringers all over India.

DOCUMENTARY WEBSITE

Lifeandtimes.org, the documentary website.

This is the draft idea of a web documentary project in which MFP will build a website for activists, volunteers, to address the issue of communalism in India. With the help of Commune News Service, MFP will supply to the site a monthly photo-essay with text, unravelling the truth behind one or other communal issue. The project will start with documenting the voices of people in Gujarat, where the recent carnage killed around 1000 Muslims. Later, fresh themes will be chosen by consulting with secular activists across the country. The site will also have a monthly e-zine send out to campaign against the growing communal divide in India.

VIDEO DOCUMENTARIES ON TRIBAL COMMUNITIES

MFP has also plans to do a 5-part series on five major tribal communities in India. Each short video (35 mins / DV / Col) will be based on concepts 1) Shelter 2) Hunger 3) Heritage 4) Resistance 5) Dreams and will cover the tribal groups of Paniyar (Kerala), Chokliar (Kerala), Santhal (W. Bengal), Naga (Nagaland), and the Majwars (Madhya Pradesh). The series shall bring out their woes, dreams and social aspirations.
